LCNP
co-founded Abolition 2000 - an international network which calls
for the conclusion, by the new millennium, of a nuclear weapons
convention, an agreement on the elimination of all nuclear weapons.
Over 1,500 organizations have endorsed the Abolition 2000 Statement
which was conceived at the Review and Extension Conference of
States Parties to the Non Proliferation Treaty in 1995. At its annual meeting held in Te Ao Maohi (French Polynesia)
in 1997, Abolition 2000 adopted the Moorea Declaration and two
years later in The Hague (Netherlands), the Hague Declaration.
Abolition 2000 has an international coordinating committee, a global council and separate working groups on various issues. LCNP manages the working group on a Nuclear Weapons Convention, which reports on progress toward the achievement of a Nuclear Weapons Convention and on feedback on the Model Nuclear Weapons Convention.
